Mira Lockhart is married to her work. One of the youngest library directors in the state, she has been climbing ladders for so long she’s forgotten what life is like outside the library. Not that she has time for love and all that mushy stuff - Westbrook Public Library is the most challenging place she’s ever worked, and every day there’s a new crisis to avert.

Her new library page, for one.

Chelle Tate is young, wild, and free, with fiery red hair and a confidence that instantly draws Mira in – perhaps too close, as Mira finds herself crossing professional boundaries against her better judgment.

As tensions mount between the two women, so do the bizarre occurrences at the library – boycotts and vandalism and sex in the stacks all conspire to threaten Mira’s job and keep her from finding balance and happiness with Chelle.

Mira finds love in the stacks, but will she have the courage to pursue it?

Praise for Love in the Stacks

"I can’t stress enough how fun and entertaining this book was. The sizzle was there, the story was engaging, and it was a quick read that, while light and sexy, also delivered humor, a bit of intrigue, and a couple of characters who didn’t just find a happy ever after, but also personal growth and life lessons as well." - Amy Herman-Pall, The Lesbian Review

"The main characters are well done - both are flawed, both need to grow and the author has done a good job of maturing them throughout the story. The library has real character and is a pleasing background to the plot." - Lesbian Reading Room

Very enjoyable book. Love triumphs, the villain is vanquished, etc.

The story held my interest throughout, and never got bogged down. It's mostly predictable, but the ending is still satisfying and you get a couple of chapters to bask in the Happily Ever After. What more could you want?

I have two minor frustrations, neither serious enough to deduct a star:

- As others have pointed out, the story begins with Chelle making a totally inappropriate move on Mira during a job interview. I'm not really convinced that such a move really fit in with Chelle's character. The story would have worked just as well without this weird scene, as long as Chelle had gotten the job.

- I often get frustrated with romance books (of all types) because I find myself wanting to yell at one of the characters, "Just TALK to her!" Mira and Chelle both express a desire to be a long-term couple, but when Mira feels that the situation at the library won't allow them to be together, she does what these sorts of characters always do -- she makes up her mind that the situation is hopeless and gives up. Just once I'd like to see a Mira character sit down with a Chelle character and say, "The situation seems hopeless to me, but the great thing about being a couple is that I don't have to go it alone. Let's put our heads together and figure out how to solve this problem." But that would have shaved 75 pages off the story, so nobody ever does this. Still, I continue to hope that someday someone will write this scene.

Another reviewer said that they had dinged the book one star for typographical errors. That review was written 9 months ago, and these errors may have been fixed. Typos and grammatical errors usually jump out at me, and I only remember seeing one or two. I actually came away thinking that the book was really well-edited.

This is the first book I've read from Cara Malone, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'll definitely look for more from her.

Love in the Stacks A Lesbian Romance edition by Cara Malone Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Mira Lockhart has spent the last ten years climbing the professional ladder to finally land the director gig at Westbrook Public Library. But once she gets there, she has to deal with a particularly nasty co-worker, not to mention what seems like a never-ending train of acts of vandalism and bad publicity. Nevertheless, she uprooted her whole life and moved to Westbrook for this job, and she’s not about to give up her lofty title so easily.

But things get complicated when Chelle Tate shows up looking for a job at the library. There’s instant chemistry between the two women, but Mira makes is clear that there can’t be anything more than that. Well – easier said than done. It doesn’t take long before things get physical. And really, really complicated as Mira constantly worries that someone’s going to find out about her unprofessional relationship with her subordinate.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable story. I really got invested in the characters. I found myself thinking about Mira and Chelle’s situation even when I wasn’t reading the book, not to mention, the two beautiful women make pretty good material for fantasizing. Which is what everyone loves in a romance, right? The author was very adept at describing the emotions of the characters, and over the course of the second half of the book, I felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster ride right along with them. I felt every kiss and every tear. Not to mention, the love scenes were very well-written. I adored everything about the ending. A highly-recommended title.
This is a fast-paced emotional rollercoaster with some serious erotica. The story starts off with the rather unlikely premise of somebody being given a job despite completely inappropriate behaviour at their interview, but develops into a decent plot with enough twists and turns to keep the attention. The work place intrigue might be obvious to the reader, but it adds a good sup-plot to the story and saves it from being simply an erotic romance.

The main characters are well done, both flawed, both need to grow and the author has done a good job of maturing them throughout the romance as one takes more responsibility and the other learns what is really important to her.

The scenes are well drawn, descriptions well done, the library has real character and is a pleasing background to the plot. The sex scenes are hot, explicit and with enough variety to make them fresh, definitely no fade to black here. There were grammar and editing issues which was a shame as it did detract from the experience, but not so badly as to make me stop.

I want to say lesbian Mills & Boon but don’t mean it as an insult. It’s a good fast read, enjoyable and definitely erotic. The improbable opening coloured the whole book for me, which is unfortunate as from then on the story settles down into a solid well-conceived plot.
Nice book.
Excellent story, predictable at the end, though I was at the edge of my seat.
Yes recommended.
Good round main characters that you will fall in love with and hate Jack.
Four stars due to typographical errors.
I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway and found that it was by an author I'd read quite a few books by already. Having met the leading ladies in the other stories they appear in,it was fun to read their own story.
Mira hires Chelle as a library page. Both are attracted to each other but Mira puts the kibosh on anything between them as they are supervisor/employee. Mira is the library director who is having a lot of problems with the library, not the least of which is Jack the research librarian who wanted Mira's job. Eventually Mira gives in to Chelle and they begin a relationship in secret. Chelle wants more and Mira is afraid to lose her job.

I enjoyed this story. Mira had a stick up her butt. Chelle was good at pushing Mira's boundaries. They do have some fierce confrontations. I have to admit I don't think I would have been as altruistic as Chelle after their last blow up. Chelle is very mature in spite of her parents' beliefs. But I did get what I wanted by the end of the story. Love wins.
